Today marks the first day of Sanfu, China's hottest summer spell, as scorching heat arrives right on schedule and the whole province is engulfed in stifling sauna-like weather.
As of 16:00, most parts of the province saw maximum temperatures surge above 35°C, with only coastal zones and high-altitude areas enjoying slightly cooler conditions. The provincial capital Hangzhou once hit 38°C, setting a new high temperature record for this year and recording its sixth heat day of the year.
