Affected by the continuous deterioration of the Black Sea situation, surging maritime cargo safety risks and escalating security tensions in the Middle East, global shipping giant Maersk has made urgent adjustments to its regional transport network once again. The official suspension of multiple shipping and combined transport services has exerted a direct impact on cross-border freight between Eurasia and the Middle East.
On July 22, 2026, Maersk issued an official operational notice, announcing the indefinite suspension of all shipping services at Ukraine's Chornomorsk Port. This suspension is indefinite, with no confirmed resumption date.
The suspension is mainly attributed to the drastic deterioration of security conditions in the Black Sea. Recently, port infrastructure and civilian cargo vessels in Ukrainian ports have been frequently attacked, leading to uncontrollable navigation risks on local routes. Maersk's feeder carriers can no longer ensure the safe operation of freight services at this port. To avoid risks of cargo damage, vessel accidents and personnel safety hazards, all shipping services to this port have been fully terminated.
Meanwhile, Maersk has officially suspended booking for partial land-based combined transport services covering the Red Sea and Middle East regions. The adjustment covers inbound, outbound and transit freight routes serving multiple Middle Eastern countries including the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. The company has comprehensively tightened freight operations in high-risk regions to minimize cargo safety threats caused by geopolitical conflicts.
