On 21 April 2026, the European Commission notified two non-compliance cases involving Chinese exported tea products destined for Croatia and Germany respectively, both failing inspection due to excessive pesticide residues.

For the green tea shipped to Croatia, pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) were detected at 399.4 µg/kg, exceeding the EU maximum residue limit (MRL) of 200 µg/kg.

The matcha exported to Germany contained dinotefuran at 0.042±0.021 mg/kg and lambda-cyhalothrin at 0.033±0.017 mg/kg, both surpassing the EU MRL of 0.01 mg/kg.
