News update with original procurement analysis · Checked: 9 October 2026
The carrier's newest Somalia notice gives tea importers a specific cost line to verify for Mogadishu shipments. It should be incorporated into the correct booking rather than confused with rates for another Somali port or another carrier.

What changed

CMA CGM announced a US$100/TEU PSS from the Far East to Mogadishu, effective 15 October loading date until further notice. The notice covers all cargo within its stated scope.

HOUTU TEA market reading

A relatively modest surcharge can still matter on value tea, especially when combined with other transport and local expenses. HOUTU TEA's analysis is that destination precision matters more than a regional label. Mogadishu and Berbera have different service and charge contexts; a published rate to one is not a substitute quotation for the other. Carrier-specific announcements should also remain within the carrier's own booking conditions.

Buyer action checklist

  • Use the exact discharge port
  • Keep each carrier's charges within its own offer
  • Confirm equipment and loading-date applicability
  • Compare full quotations on identical shipment terms

Procurement decision

Request a named-port offer with the actual container type, loading window and importer delivery responsibilities. Confirm the charge inclusion and the applicable local costs with the forwarder. For retail-packed tea, use the net weight supported by the load plan when calculating transport per pack. Maintain realistic lead time and receiving inventory rather than assuming a new surcharge notice also confirms a faster or more reliable service.

Limits and risk

This is a surcharge announcement, not a total ocean quote or a service guarantee. It cannot be combined indiscriminately with another carrier's FAK table to calculate a real booking cost.

Illustrative order scenario - not an actual transaction

A buyer comparing two carrier offers should create separate full-cost columns for the same Mogadishu shipment. A 40-foot booking would represent US$200 at the stated PSS if separately applicable, but the final comparison must include each carrier's own ocean, local and service terms. Do not mix lines from different offers.

HOUTU TEA execution note

The buying implications above are HOUTU TEA analysis, not statements by the source. Use this update to request comparable offers, not as a live price quotation. Keep the approved sample, batch specification, testing scope, packing details and shipment terms together before authorising a purchase. Where regulation is involved, the importer should verify the applicable product and destination requirements before shipment.
