In July 2025, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) officially released ISO 18449:2025 "Green Tea - Terminology", a milestone standard led and revised by China. This is a groundbreaking achievement for the global green tea industry, as it marks the first time 143 core green tea terminology terms are systematically organized and presented in a unified "text + visual flavor wheel" format.
The terms cover key aspects including green tea varieties, processing techniques, quality characteristics, and sensory evaluation, addressing the long-standing issue of inconsistent terminology and evaluation criteria in global green tea trade.
By providing a standardized technical language for cross-border green tea transactions, the standard further enhances China's discourse power in the international green tea industry.
For Chinese green tea export enterprises, this is particularly beneficial: it helps reduce trade disputes caused by terminology misunderstandings, lowers communication costs with overseas partners, and creates favorable conditions for better promoting Chinese green tea products to the global market.
