You can become more in harmony with God and your spiritual side when you no longer pay attention to your earthly needs such as food.  Moreover, fasting reminds Muslims of the sufferings of the poor.  This perception reinforces the importance of charity during Ramadan.  Fasting offers muslims an opportunity to practice self-control and purify their minds and bodies.  Many cultures and religions practice fasting for this purpose.  During Ramadan, fasting makes Muslims more spiritually devout and encourages them to develop a sense of intimacy with other Muslims.

According to the text: "In Ramadan he who observes the feast of the night to show his faith and to seek Allah's blessing will be cleansed of his previous SINS."  Therefore, the Ramadan feast after the daytime fast is to purge the SINS of the past.  In this way, the midnight ritual becomes an important part of the Ramadan ritual.  At the end of Ramadan, muslims recite great hymns before breaking their fast.  The Great Praise is a declaration that no one in the world is greater and more important than Allah.  The great hymn is recited when Muslims perform an important task, such as breaking their fast during Ramadan.
