Halal certification for tea is an essential requirement in Muslim countries

For tea exports to Islamic nations such as Algeria, Senegal, and Mali, Halal certification is a mandatory requirement for customs clearance. While the tea processing involves no animal fats or additives-meaning the base green tea inherently meets Halal standards-factories must still obtain an official certificate from a third-party agency; this certificate details the factory information, tea product codes, and validity period. Shipments lacking Halal certification risk being detained at the port, incurring substantial demurrage charges. Established export enterprises typically obtain annual Halal certification, allowing all exported tea products to share the same credentials and thereby reducing the cost of individual certifications.
