Chunmee and the Precious Eyebrow: How a Leaf Shape Became a Tea Name

Before a customer tastes Chunmee, the leaf shape has already told part of the story.

The name Chunmee does not describe a place or a person. It describes the line drawn by the leaf itself.

What the name means

Chunmee, also written Chun Mee, is commonly explained as "precious eyebrow." The UK Tea & Infusions Association links the name directly to the long, fine curved appearance of the finished leaves.

Romanisation and trade spelling vary, and the related Chinese name Zhenmei may also appear. These differences do not change the central idea: visual form became a memorable commercial identity.

Shape requires processing control

Heating, rolling and drying must work together. Too little shaping produces an open, irregular appearance; excessive pressure can create too much breakage. Commercial grades therefore differ in fineness, uniformity, colour, cup strength and price.

Name is not a complete grade
The word Chunmee identifies a style family. Buyers still need to compare the exact grade, sample and cup profile.

Why the story matters

A useful product name helps customers remember a tea before they know technical grade numbers. "Precious eyebrow" connects appearance, craftsmanship and product identity in two words.
