Pack format matters when evaluating supplier demand and manufacturing capability.

What changed

September exports totalled 23.09 million kg. Bulk tea and packets declined year on year; the other reported export categories increased.

HOUTU TEA market reading

Pack format matters when evaluating supplier demand and manufacturing capability. A tea-bag programme requires a reproducible particle distribution and dependable packing, not merely access to bulk leaf. HOUTU TEA would use the category split to structure supplier questions, while avoiding a claim that one month proves a permanent consumer shift. The buyer's own reorder history remains the strongest guide to quantity.

Illustrative order scenario - not an actual transaction

A distributor could compare an individually wrapped tea bag with a simpler foodservice format. A limited customer trial would determine whether the extra packaging cost earns a repeat purchase in the intended channel.

Limits and risk

A category-level export gain does not demonstrate the sales performance or profitability of an individual SKU.

Procurement decision

For private-label tea bags, check extraction time, dust leakage, seal integrity and the actual packing material. Obtain a finished-pack sample instead of approving loose tea alone. Build the delivery plan around both tea availability and packaging procurement. Where branded film has a long lead time, agree ownership and storage arrangements for unused materials before paying for a large print run.

Buyer action checklist

  • Approve a finished-pack sample
  • Test brew performance
  • Inspect seals and leakage
  • Control printed-material commitments

The buying implications above are HOUTU TEA analysis, not statements by the source. Use this update to request comparable offers, not as a live price quotation. Keep the approved sample, batch specification, testing scope, packing details and shipment terms together before authorising a purchase. Where regulation is involved, the importer should verify the applicable product and destination requirements before shipment.
