Overview of China's Tea Imports and Exports from January to November 2025

 

EXPORT: Tea Exports

01 Overall Situation

According to customs statistics, from January to November 2025, China exported 384,000 tons of tea with a value of approximately 1.41 billion USD, up 13.0% and 9.2% year-on-year (YoY) respectively. The average price was 3.7 USD/kg, down 3.3% YoY.

02 Tea Category Data

Among all tea types:

Export volumes of green tea (338,000 tons), black tea (24,000 tons), jasmine tea (6879 tons) and other scented tea (132 tons) all rose YoY. Green tea saw the largest growth (≈14.8%).

Export volumes of oolong tea (13,000 tons), ripe Pu'er (1260 tons), dark tea (427 tons) and white tea (407 tons) fell YoY. Dark tea recorded the biggest declines in volume (-10.3%), value (-43.0%) and average price (-36.4%).

03 Market-wise Data

The top 10 tea export destinations are Morocco, Uzbekistan, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritania, Ghana, Kenya, Russia, Algeria, Chad, and Japan.

Exports to Côte d'Ivoire (15,000 tons, 65.14 million USD) saw the largest YoY growth: 299.3% (volume) and 317.9% (value).

Exports to Ghana (17,000 tons, 68.63 million USD) saw the largest YoY decline: 52.8% (volume) and 52.4% (value).

IMPORT: Tea Imports

01 Overall Situation

According to customs statistics, from January to November 2025, China imported about 57,000 tons of tea with a value of approximately 170 million USD. The average price was 3.0 USD/kg, up 16.1%, 19.5% and 3.0% YoY respectively.

02 Tea Category Data

Imports of black tea (45,000 tons), oolong tea (1410 tons), other scented tea (404 tons) and mate tea (252 tons) rose YoY. Other scented tea saw the largest growth: 103.3% (volume) and 81.3% (value).

Imports of green tea (9033 tons) and jasmine tea (21 tons) fell YoY, by 6.8% and 17.8% respectively. Jasmine tea saw the largest value decline (37.3%).

03 Market-wise Data

The top 5 tea import sources by volume are India (14,000 tons), Vietnam (13,000 tons), Sri Lanka (9685 tons), Kenya (8860 tons) and Myanmar (1811 tons).

Imports from India saw the largest YoY growth: 142.1% (volume) and 155.5% (value).
