Around 1 November, dockworkers across Europe and many other parts of the world launched coordinated strikes, affecting 113 ports in 22 countries, including key hubs such as Piraeus, Valencia, Le Havre, Algeciras, Genoa, the Mediterranean Port of Tangier and the Port of Navasheva in India. The strike demands included opposition to the use of ports for arms shipments, as well as calls for pay rises and improved working conditions. The organisers stated that the action could affect approximately 52,000 containers and goods worth US$2.8 billion, though Reuters reported that it was unable to independently verify these figures. At the Port of Piraeus in Greece alone, some 3,000 dockworkers and seafarers took part, leading to the suspension of cargo operations and the cancellation of ferry services to the islands.
