Kenya, a traditional major exporter of black tea, has recently begun trial production of green tea for export to West Africa; Vietnamese green tea, priced 15% to 20% lower than Chinese products, has captured a portion of the low-end market; India is also actively expanding its share of the North African green tea market. The price war has spread from Morocco to Nigeria. However, Chinese tea faces a formidable competitive advantage: Moroccan consumers equate "Made in China" with quality assurance, a cultural perception built up over generations of consumption.
