How tea met dairy culture
Tea reached Mongolia through trade routes linking China, Mongolia and Russia. Compressed brick tea was especially practical for transport. In pastoral households, it was combined with milk and often salt, and may be served with grains, fat or other additions depending on region and occasion.

Why there is no single recipe
Why the story matters
Mongolian milk tea shows why a supplier must ask how tea is actually consumed. A leaf chosen for plain tasting may need enough body to remain present beside milk, salt and food.
