Beyond Morocco, several other African markets offer substantial potential for green tea exports. Algeria is Africa's second-largest green tea consumer, with a population exceeding 45 million and per capita annual consumption of approximately 420 grams. The market simultaneously imports premium Chunmee, Gunpowder, Sowmee, and other grades, reflecting a multi-tiered demand structure. Mauritania, with a population of only about 4.8 million, has remarkably high per capita green tea consumption and a strong preference for bold, astringent flavors that demand exceptional leaf durability. Additionally, West African countries including Ghana, Senegal, and Nigeria are showing steady growth in green tea imports. In 2023, seven of the top ten destinations for Chinese tea exports were African nations. To tap these "second-tier" markets, exporters must conduct in-depth research on each country's import policies, price sensitivity, and distribution channels, adopting differentiated product strategies.
