Storage of green tea
Avoid humidity, high temperature, sunlight, oxygen, and odors. There are generally five methods for household preservation of green tea:
1.Tea storage method using earthenware jars
This method has existed since ancient times. Ming Dynasty scholar Feng Mengzhen stated: 'Place a large earthenware jar of tea with bamboo mats at the bottom, seal it tightly, and invert it. The tea will not turn yellow during summer because the moisture will not escape.' The moisture content of tea leaves should not exceed 6%. Caustic soda can be used to dehumidify, and the specific operation method is the same as the lime block preservation method.
2.Cannibalism
The container should be a metal vessel, box, can, or box used for storing pastries or other food items, made of iron, aluminum, paper, or paper products, and may be square, round, flat, or irregular in shape. It is crucial that the tea is dry and the bag opening is securely sealed. This method is simple and convenient for use.
3. Plastic bag storage method for tea
Select food packaging bags with high density, high pressure, thickness, good strength, and no odor. The tea can be pre-wrapped in relatively soft clean paper, then placed inside the food bag, and sealed to complete the process.
4. Hot water bottle tea storage method
A thermos flask that has been discarded due to poor insulation can be repurposed by filling it with dry green tea, sealing the lid, and then sealing the opening with wax.
5. Refrigeration storage method
The green tea is placed into food packaging bags with high density, high pressure, thickness, good strength, and no odor, and then stored in the freezer or refrigerator compartment. This method ensures long-term preservation with excellent results, but the bag opening must be tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption or flavor transfer, which could otherwise compromise the quality of the green tea leaves.
